Day 1: Safeguarding for Grant-Making Organisations in UK

This course will cover:

  • Key concepts and approaches to safeguarding and their relevance across different contexts
  • Key components of a positive safeguarding system
  • Good practices in embedding safeguarding within grant-making, from assessment through to monitoring and the reporting of safeguarding incidents.

This course is primarily designed for those with safeguarding responsibilities in funders, including designated safeguarding leads and senior leaders with overall responsibility for safeguarding. The course may be more widely relevant to representatives from funding teams who are responsible for embedding safeguarding in grant making practices.

This course does not cover basic safeguarding principles and concepts so participants should have a good foundational understanding of safeguarding. This course is not designed to cover safeguarding when engaging in direct work with children or adults at risk. Individuals who are engaged in this type of work may require additional training.

Day 2: Designated Safeguarding Leads in Grant-Making Organisations in UK

This course will cover:

  • The role and responsibilities of a DSL in embedding an effective safeguarding culture
  • Good practice in working with others to promote safeguarding, including working with leadership and the Board
  • Effective response to safeguarding concerns reported within your organization.
  • Effective response to safeguarding concerns reported by a funded partner.

This course is primarily designed for those taking on the designated safeguarding lead role, including deputies, in funder organisations based in UK. The course may be more widely relevant to leaders responsible for safeguarding or who manage DSLs.

This course does not cover basic safeguarding concepts so participants should have a good foundational understanding of safeguarding. This includes understanding different types of harm and an awareness of good practice principles when responding to safeguarding concerns.

Location: Global Fund for Children, 1411 K Street NW, Suite 1200, Washington, DC

What role can funders play to ensure that the organizations we support keep the people and communities they serve safe? And how can we do so in ways that strengthen, rather than burden, our partners?

US Peer Learning Circle – June 2026

Date: 11 June 2026

Location: Washington DC

When Safety Gets Complicated: Supporting Funder Leadership, Well-Being and Decision-Making in Practice

At a time when global uncertainty, shifting risks, and growing expectations are making safety feel increasingly complex, this convening creates space for funders to connect and support each other. In addition, participants will leave with actionable solutions to strengthen how safeguarding concerns are handled — and feeling more supported, more connected, and re-energized for the work ahead.

The day will focus on two key themes:

Supporting the Well-Being of the Supporters: a dedicated well-being workshop and peer dialogue on how funders sustain themselves and their teams while holding responsibility for safeguarding in an increasingly complex environment.

Responding with Care Whether You’re Managing Up, Across, or Alone: Participants will work through real-world scenarios exploring the diversity of safeguarding and wellbeing issues that might arise for US and Canada funders. This will be followed by a practice clinic, where funders can review current procedures to identify practical ways to strengthen their systems and support when dealing with complex concerns.
