Safeguarding when funding Lived Experience-Led Organisations: An Essentials Guide

Cover of LEO Essentials Guide

This guide has been developed specifically for funders who partner with lived experience-led organisations (LEOs).  The publication draws on insights from LEOs and funders who support such organisations.

The Guide covers:

  • Key safeguarding risks relevant to lived experience-led organisations, recognising that they are not inherently riskier, but their risks may look different because of the lived experience nature of their people and their work.
  • Explores safeguarding risks both within LEOs themselves, and through funder practice.
  • Encourages funders to work with organisations to understand their concepts of safety and risk – there is no ‘one-size fits all’.
  • How funder language, definitions, and funding structures can impact care, safety, and wellbeing.
  • Explores care and safety in the grant cycle as well as in funders communications.
  • Important considerations for funders to safely, ethically and effectively partner with LEOs.
